Buyer and site manager

Site managers and buyers must ensure that the appropriate construction products are used, and must make this assessment by requesting a Declaration of Performance (DoP) on every construction product.

Choosing a wood with reaction to fire properties must be done with the help of a DoP. If the DoP is not available, how can you possibly determine whether or not the product meets the requirements set in the EU Construction Products Regulation 305/2011?

As site manager or buyer, you, together with the developer, are responsible for determining whether a construction product is suitable for a project with imposed fire safety requirements. It is the manufacturer who must indicate the intended use for the product and who must demonstrate that the product properties have been assessed through a CE certification process. Construction products that are subject to a harmonized standard must be performance-certified and CE marked, otherwise they may not be sold within the EU. For more information about CE marking, read Boverkets CE DIG FÖR (Swedish)
Declaration of Performance - A red link in the chain

The Declaration of Performance that must be provided for each CE marked construction product contains reliable information about essential product characteristics and performance, as documented by the manufacturer. Only the manufacturer, not downstream users such as wholesalers, may issue a DoP based on the requirements for AVCP system 1 etc.

Using this information as a guide, you can decide whether the product is suitable for a particular case. The product characteristics which are relevant to report in the Declaration of Performance for a particular product can vary based on national building requirements.
